What makes the process of freeze-drying better?
Freeze-drying is an advanced method of drying using very low temperatures to preserve nutritional value and create high-quality, long-term storage food products. In addition to preserving the product's structure, appearance and taste, freeze-drying is the most effective at retaining antioxidants including flavonoids and anthocyanins. Up to 97% of nutrients are kept using this method in comparison to about 60% or less in other methods of preservation.
Freeze-dried foods have a much longer shelf life and do not need to be rotated like other foods.
Freeze-dried foods are perfect for home storage, emergency use, camping, and hiking! Freeze-dried food are also commonly used for survival applications such as space exploration and military rations.
How long will they last in their packaging?
Unopened, these cherries will last up to two years. Be sure to keep your package out of direct sunlight and extreme heat.
Freeze-dried cherries are crunchy. To keep them that way, reseal the bag when not eating. Contents will absorb moisture from the air and become sticky. They will still be good to eat but will not last as long as a cherry without moisture. If it gets sticky it's best to be used within 24 hrs.

Chicken Breast with Port Wine and Cherry Sauce
For the chicken
4 Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts
Flour for Dredging
3 Tablespoons sweet butter
1 Teaspoon Vegetable oil
For the Sauce
1/2 Cup Port Wine
2 Tablespoons Freeze-Dried Cherries
2 Teaspoons Seedless Raspberry Jam
1. Mix the sauce ingredients in a bowl and set aside
2 Season chicken with salt and pepper. Dredge in the four. Shake off excess.
3. In a 12" skillet, heat the oil and butter. Increase the heat to medium high before adding the chicken.
4. Add the chicken and cook about 4 minutes per side. Using a meat thermometer, ensure chicken is fully cooked before removing.
5. Transfer to a plate and keep warm.
6. Take the bowl with the sauce ingredients and add to a pan. Bring the mixture to a boil and stir until the sauce becomes glossy. Remove from heat.
7. Spoon over the chicken and serve immediately!
